Geotextiles > Storage & Installation

Storage

Geotextiles must be not in direct contact to the sun light. The stock area must protect geotextiles against physical or chemical damage.

Installation

1. Preparation
Remove shrubs, cut tree trunks as short as possible, level out major unevenness.

2. Geotextile placement
Geotextiles are rolled out directly on top of the sod or the prepared surface.

3. Joining of geotextile panels
A tension joint can be achieved by overlapping, sewing.

Overlapping
Overlapping width
> 30 cm on even surface
> 50 cm on uneven surface or extremely bad subsoil
In order to avoid displacing the geotextile during backfilling over end panel joints, the connecting panel must be placed underneath the end of the previously rolled-out geotextile.

4. Filling
The first layer of fill material is applied by overhead placement. Traffic on the geotextile itself should be avoided.

5. Spreading
Spreading of the fill material should be done with crawler-type bulldozers.

6. Compacting
The compacting method (static, dynamic) should be suited to the subgrade and the fill material. Construction vehicles should be kept off the surface until compaction of the minimum fill layer is completed.
